Athletes Off to College
Twenty-seven members of Mercersburg’s Class of 2009 will compete in intercollegiate athletics next year. Members of the group represent 11 different sports; 14 members will compete on the NCAA Division I stage.
Mercersburg’s strong tradition in swimming and diving is reflected in the group, as Coach Pete Williams sends four swimmers and one diver to programs ranging from the U.S. Naval Academy to NCAA Division III power Kenyon College. All-MAPL and All-Area quarterback Trevor Smith joins three other Storm football players in continuing his career at the next level, as he will compete at Bates College in Maine this fall.
“While the primary purpose of our program is to provide a fulfilling experience for any level of athlete, it is great to see the number of students who will compete at the next level and the diversity of sports represented in the graduating class this year,” says Rick Hendrickson, Mercersburg’s director of athletics.
