Athletes Off to College


Twenty-seven members of Mercersburg’s Class of 2009 will compete in intercollegiate athletics next year. Members of the group represent 11 different sports; 14 members will compete on the NCAA Division I stage.

2009 Spring Athletic Awards Ceremony Features Special Honors


A new format and special honors accorded to two graduating seniors highlighted the 2009 Spring Varsity Athletic Awards Ceremony. The event, held for the first time in the Edwards Room in Keil Hall, recognized the effort, energy and accomplishment reflective of all sports teams over the course of the spring athletic season.

Vying for the Cup


The Williams Cup, an athletic tradition at Mercersburg that dates back to the school’s founding, is back on campus for the first time since 2002. The competition, which today is open to all male students, consists of five events: the 100-meter hurdles, 400-meter run, shot put, long jump, and 1600-meter run. Scoring is compiled using decathlon scoring tables, so the level of performance is more important then the finish in each event.

4 Event Winners Lead Women's Track To 2nd At MAPL


Mercersburg ran, threw, and jumped its way to the team's highest finish ever at the Mid-Atlantic Prep League championships, with four individual event winners leading an effort that produced 12 placewinning performances on and around the oval at the Lawrenceville School.

Four Tournaments, Four Titles


Caroline Lovette ’09 shot a two-under-par 33 to capture her second straight Mid-Atlantic Prep League women’s golf tournament title, marking the fourth consecutive year that a Mercersburg golfer has won MAPL gold.

Alumni In Action-Winter 2009 Sports Update


On the court, in the water, and around the track, Mercersburg alumni played key roles on collegiate athletic teams across the country this past winter.  

Alex Tyler'06 played for Cornell in the NCAA men's basketball tournament, while Brittany Lattisaw'05 finished her career as one of the best women's basketball players in Haverford College history.  Hannah Galey'05 swam to school records and Ivy League honors for Columbia, as Jordan Exeter'07 and Travis Youngs'06 set new indoor track records for

Thomson Swims To CARIFTA Bronze


Mercersburg standout Nick Thomson'10 recently swam to a third place finish in the CARIFTA Games, setting a new age group record for his home country of Bermuda by touching the wall in :24.49.  The CARIFTA meet includes teams from 20 countries around the Caribbean.

Thomson won the 50m freestyle at the Eastern National meet in February, qualifying for All-American status. He was also swam the first leg of Mercersburg's championship 200 meter freestyle relay and was 1st Team All-MAPL.

MAPL Champions--Baseball Sweeps Hun For League Title


The Mid-Atlantic Prep League enjoys a strong reputation in baseball, as it does in many sports.  It is not unusual for league titles on the diamond to be determined in the final weekend of the regular season. Parity often reigns, evidenced by the co-championship shared by Mercersburg and Peddie in 2008, when both teams compiled 7–3 records.

Storm Athletes Earn Winter All-MAPL, All-Area, All-American Honors


Mercersburg's success on the courts, in the pool, on the mats, and around the track was recognized recently with the announcement of All-MAPL and All-Area selections from the winter sports season, as well as All-American status in two sports.  15 Mercersburg athletes earned first team honors in the Mid-Atlantic Prep League, while several more were recognized around the league and by the Tri-State area's two newspaper outlets.

Storm Force-Women's Track Wins Quad Against MAPL Rivals


Multiple event winners paced a balanced effort for Mercersburg as the hosts swept a quad against Mid-Atlantic Prep League rivals Hill, Peddie, and Blair on Saturday. Although the meet does not count towards any official standings in the MAPL, the Storm served notice that it will be a force to be reckoned with at the league championship meet in May, achieving success in every area, starting with the field events and ranging from the sprints to long distance on the oval.
